Brush Fire Season Hit Quickly

With spring fast approaching, warmer temperatures are starting to grace the region. Unfortunately, that also means creating forest fire opportunities. Over the weekend, Athens responded to four brush fires in and around Mercer County. "The humidity levels haven't dropped too much so we are not at a dangerous level yet. However, without much needed rain, we are going to continue to dry out and humidity won't really be a factor," said an official with the WVDNR. Citizes are reminded that during forest fire season, no open burining is permitted between 7am and 4pm. After 4pm burning is allowed, but must be supervised at all times and any person who allows a fire to get out of control is subject to a fine.
Concord to rename Post Office after Chuck Marshall
It has been nearly eight months since Chuck Marshall departed this life after a long valiant battle with cancer, yet the accolades and memorials continue to come to light. The CU SGA has asked the Board of Governor's to rename the post office at Concord after the late Charles "Chuck" Marshall. Chuck worked at the post office for nearly five years while attending school. It was not uncommon to see Chuck driving to the town post office to pick up the daily mail, or working the window during the busy lunch hours. It is also a testament to the impact Chuck had on the college community. "No matter how bad he felt, when you asked him how he was doing, his answer 'it's all good'," said his former supervisor, Debbie.
